- 1825 – The estate called Edgehill, lying in Albemarle county, "together with Slaves, stock, & content" were offered for sale at Auction.
- 1892 – The First Battalion of Colored Infantry of Richmond, Va., under command of Major J. B. Johnson arrived in Charlottesville early this morning. The battalion, headed by their band, marched to the fairgrounds of the Piedmont Industrial and Land Improvement Company, where a dress parade, bayonet exercise, and a sham battle took place. (In 1876 four black companies combined to form the 1st Battalion Colored Infantry. Most militiamen joined for social and recreational reasons.)
- 1918 – According to the Daily Progress, after 4 days and nights of racking heat, a rain storm “visited this afflicted place” something after 9 o’clock. Official statistics, kept at the University Observatory, show that all previous heat records for this locality were broken yesterday, when a maximum of 105 in the shade was recorded. The storm caused a drop of 36 degrees, the minimum for last night being 69 degrees. Less than an inch of rain fell.
