- 1912 – Dorothy Zenobia Lias's portrait photograph, which forms a part of the Holsinger Studio Collection, was made at Holsinger's West Main Street studio in celebration of her graduation from Jefferson Graded School.
- 1929 – A slight earthquake was recorded this morning on the seismograph at the Rouss Physical laboratory at the University of Virginia. The tremor, starting at 6:26, lasted for about three minutes.
- 2017 – Clashes at a "Unite the Right" rally held in Market Street Park turned deadly after a car mowed into counter-protesters.
