Hook citation
The Hook is frequently cited in cvillepedia. It has both print and web versions.
Usage
Use this template to cite articles appearing in The Hook, whether print, online, or both. You are encouraged to supply both if available, but that is not required.
This should look familiar to you if you are used to the {{cite web}} template, but is specifically tailored for use with The Hook.

This is a helpful template block to COPY for a new Hook citation <ref>{{cite-hook|title=|url=|author=|pageno=|printno=|printdate=|publishdate=|accessdate=}}</ref> |
Parameters
The web version uses the main {{cite web}} template, so if you are used to that, most of those parameters are available to you. Specifically, you can use url, title, author, publishdate, and accessdate exactly as defined from that template.
Differences are below.
Parameters removed from cite web
You do not need to pass in the values for publisher or work. Those are passed to cite web by directly this template to assure consistency and as part of the time savings of using this template.
For print-only uses, printdate is required. For combined web and print citations, the print date may be different from the (web) publishdate. Use the printdate parameter for that. The Hook will use a date range in footers; that range is also acceptable.
If you know the print page number, use the pageno parameter.
Optionally, The Hook identifies its print issues with a sequential number shown either combined (usually found on the cover or the website), and as a volume/edition pair (usually at the table of contents). E.g., #0851 is volume 8., number 51. If you know any of those, use the printno parameter for that. For special issues (e.g., Year in Review, Annual Manual) you can include that here as well.
Examples
Note we use author and title the same way, throughout.
Print only
This version is obtained if you do NOT use the url parameter.
This example uses all the print-related parameters. | It produces: |
---|---|
{{cite-hook
|title=Last night Virginia?
|author=Carroll Trainum
|pageno=39
|printno=#0851
|printdate=12.24.09 - 01.06.10
}}
|
Print: Last night Virginia?, Carroll Trainum, The Hook, Better Publications LLC, 12.24.09 - 01.06.10 , #0851, page 39. |
Web only
If you use a url, but not a printdate, you get the web-only version.
This example uses all the web-related parameters. | It produces: |
---|---|
{{cite-hook
|title=Last night Virginia?
|author=Carroll Trainum
