Scottie Griffin served as superintendent of Charlottesville City Schools from 2004 to June 30, 2005. In April 2005, the school board announced that Dr. Griffin had decided to “pursue other interests.”

The Charlottesville School Board accepted the resignation of Dr. Scottie Griffin effective June 30, 2005. Dr. Bobby Thompson and Ms. Gertrude Ivory acted as superintendent during the transition period. The Board accepted her resignation by a 5-2 vote, board chair Dede Smith. A separation agreement was also accepted by the Board.

U.S. Senate to represent Maryland

In 2022, Scottie Griffin (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Maryland. In August 2022, Dr. Griffin announced her candidacy and disseminated it extensively to the public via a variety of organizations and social media platforms including Face Book, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, and WhatsApp. The announcement specifically referenced that as a US Senator she would continually utilize her executive leadership skills and expertise in policy development and execution, which were acquired as an educational executive serving at national and international levels, to improve the quality of life for all Americans.[1] Griffin lost as a write-in in the general election on November 8, 2022; receiving 334 votes of the 2,002,336 total votes.
