S.A. Thurston was the sixth pastor of the Mount Zion First African Baptist Church, serving for nine years following the death of Royal Brown Hardy[1]. Church history describes him as having a "child-like spirit and magnetic personality." Thurston left the church to become pastor of the Rodman Street Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
