Notable events
- An article by Lane was the subject of a 1965 Virginia Supreme Court case regarding whether it swayed the decision of a commission set up to decide the amount of a condemnation settlement related to the construction of the U.S. 250 bypass. The landowner, Elizabeth E. Siegfried, alleged that the value of the land was $200,000 and not the $12,717 the city was willing to pay. She also wanted $200,000 in damages. Lane wrote about this in the May 20, 1963 Daily Progress and all five members of the commission read the article. [2]
