Ora A. Maupin (September 23, 1910 - April 26, 2003), widely known as "Miss Ora," served as Charlottesville Commissioner of the Revenue for 45 years. She was a past president of the Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia and a member of the Charlottesville Democratic Committee.[1]
Maupin joined the Charlottesville commissioner of the revenue office in 1944 as a deputy commissioner. In 1952, following the death of the incumbent commissioner, Ora Maupin was appointed as commissioner of the revenue. Maupin was elected by the city voters the following year and re-elected every four years (nine times) until her retirement in 1989.[1]
A native of Charlottesville, Ora Ann Maupin was born to Annie Frances Dunn and Ovander Pittman Maupin on September 23, 1910.
A longtime member of University Baptist Church, Maupin served as pianist for the adult Sunday School and was a member of the Rebekah's Class.[1]
Ora Ann Maupin (aged 92) died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at her home at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. Interment took place in Riverview Cemetery.
