A number of veterans of the Mexican–American War (April 25, 1846 - February 2, 1848) were residents of or otherwise associated with Charlottesville and Albemarle County.[1][2][3][4]
Nicholas Trist served as a diplomatic attaché to the army of General Winfield Scott during the conflict, eventually negotiating the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the war and greatly expanded the size of the continental United States.[5]
Captain William Linn Tidball served in the conflict as a Lieutenant in the Third Ohio Regiment.
