Melvin "Mel" Eugene Walker is the owner and chef at Mel's Cafe. Walker was born in the Vinegar Hill neighborhood in the fifties. In 1984 he opened Mel's Cafe on West Main Street. But because of a lack of business he closed the restaurant five years later. In 1995 he re-purchased the building and re-opened the restaurant. [1]

Biography
Walker began working in restaurants at the age of 11. He cooked at The Virginian when he was 13. [2]
