- 1908 – President and Mrs. Roosevelt and naturalist John Burroughs arrive at Pine Knot and stay until May 10. They planned to come down on May 7, but were delayed by official business. This would be Roosevelt’s last visit to the rustic retreat that had no running water, no electricity and most importantly no White House business.
