Lindsay G. Dorrier, Jr. served for many years as the Democratic representative for the Scottsville Magisterial District on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. He retired at the end of 2011.
Biography
Dorrier was born on August 27, 1943 in Scottsville. His mother was a teacher at Belfield School and his father ran the local Ford dealership, Bruce-Dorrier Motor Company. Dorrier was raised in Scottsville, attended public schools, graduated from St. Christopher’s School and Trinity College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate School and served in Japan in Military Intelligence.
Dorrier returned home to attend University of Virginia Law School and pursued his career as a lawyer and elected official. He has been a U.S. Army Reserve JAG Officer for fifteen years. In 1982, he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 7th District. He previously served as a member of the Board of Supervisors from 1976 to 1980 before being elected as Commonwealth's Attorney for Albemarle County that year. In 1990, he was appointed to serve as Director of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, a post he served in until 1994.
In 1999, he ran against Terry Hawkins (R) for his old seat on the Board of Supervisors. He won again in 2003 and 2007.
Dorrier represented Albemarle County on the Rivanna River Basin Commission.
Dorrier is married to Jane Ikenberry Dorrier and has a daughter and son. He has announced he will not seek another term on the Board, citing his battle with Parkinson's Disease as one of the reasons. [2]

2011 election
Dorrier has announced he will not seek re-election, creating an open seat for the Scottsville District. [2]
2007 election
Democrat Lindsey Dorrier easily fended off his two challengers in the race for the Scottsville seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Denny King and Kevin Fletcher split the opposition. Dorrier received 2,096 votes, Denny King received 897 votes, and Kevin Fletcher received 767 votes. Registered voter turnout in the Scottsville District was 35.7 percent.[3]

1999 election
Dorrier was nominated by the Albemarle County Democratic Party on June 2, 1999. [5].[dead link] His opponent was former Albemarle County Sheriff Terry Hawkins. One of the major issues that year was growth in the County.
"My vision is to have a community with planned growth and a high quality of life," Dorrier told the Daily Progress[6]. He said one of his first priorities if elected would be to set up a joint meeting with the Charlottesville City Council to discuss regional cooperation on the issue.
