Births
- 1892 – Dumas Malone is born to an impoverished religious household in Coldwater, Mississippi. A professor and biographer who spent the majority of his career teaching at the University of Virginia (where he served as the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor of History), he is best known for his six-volume biography of Thomas Jefferson, which became the preeminent authoritative work on the life of the founding father.
