James Rogers McConnell

James Rogers McConnell (1887–1917) was a University of Virginia Law student who, in 1915, volunteered for the Lafayette Escadrille (a French Air Force unit) during World War I. He was eventually shot down over France and killed in March of 1917, later serving as the model for The Aviator statue at the University of Virginia.[1]
