Hydraulic/29 Intersection Improvements is a series of four transportation projects that were submitted by the Charlottesville Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization in the fourth round of the Smart Scale process. The project was fully-funded, though one of the components has been removed. [1]
The project is expected to go to construction in the winter of 2024. [2]
Background
The project would:
- Construct a pedestrian bridge over U.S. 29 with bus stops and shelters near Zan Road
- Construct a signalized pedestrian crossing and reconfigured traffic movements at the Hydraulic Road and U.S. 29 intersection
- Reconstruct the Hillsdale and Hydraulic Road intersection as a roundabouxt.
- Improve access management at the Hydraulic Road/Brandywine Drive and Hydraulic Road/Michie Drive intersections
A component that would have built a Continuous Green T intersection design at Angus Road and 29 to improve signal timing has been removed from the project. [2]
