Hydraulic is an area of Albemarle County which at one point had a thriving African American community. The chief industry was a mill which at one point in the late 19th century supplied much of the lumber used to build the University of Virginia. [1]
Much of the area is now covered by the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir.
