Hezedean A. Smith

Hezedean A. Smith is a former chief of the Charlottesville Fire Department. He was appointed in October 2020 and began work on December 1, 2020. [1]

Smith left Charlottesville in the fall of 2022 to become Fire Chief in Polk County, Florida. [2] He resigned that position in September 2024. [3]

Biography

Smith is a native of Montego Bay, Jamaica. He served in the U.S. Air Force beginning in 1988 and began work in EMS in 1992. [4]

Smith holds a Doctor of Management degree in Organizational Leadership as well as a master's degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Before working in Charlottesville, he served with the Orlando Fire Department. [1].
