Hedgerow Park is a planned park in central Albemarle County with no clear timeline for implementation. [1]

Background

Around 340 acres of mountainous terrain were given to the county by the late Jane Heyward by way of the Nature Conservancy. The property is contiguous with the Ragged Mountain Natural Area owned by the city of Charlottesville. [2] Heyward intended for the park to be used for hiking, biking and possibly equestrian use according to Dan Mahon of the county's park and recreation department.

In March 2017, parks director Bob Crickenberger told supervisors that opening the park would require the creation of another administrator. [3]

In April 2017, the Board of Supervisors agreed to a feasibility study to open the park. [4] That August they were told that W.W. Associates estimated it would cost around $2.4 million in road improvements and water management infrastructure to open the park. [5] The report also recommended access be made via a new entrance rather than through a private road on which the county is allowed to use via an easement. Supervisors pushed back on the estimate and asked for a possible entrance and parking area to be routed off of other nearby roads. [6]
