George Melvin was a celebrated jazz pianist who played for many years at clubs and restaurants in Charlottesville. He died on April 15, 2010[1]. Melvin, a Lynchburg native, had battled diabetes for years. In 2008, he received the first award handed out by the Charlottesville Jazz Society.
