Friends of the Moormans River is an informal group of residents that has advocated for the restoration of stream flows to the Moormans River in Western Albemarle. The Moormans has had water diverted to supply the Ragged Mountain Reservoir since the construction of the Sugar Hollow Pipeline in 1925.

The principal spokesperson has been John Martin, who has lobbied local officials to ensure improvements to the aquatic ecosystem of the Moormans River were part of the community water supply plan that was ultimately approved in 2006.

Another spokesperson is Donna Bennett.[1]

Formation

According to John Martin, Friends of the Moormans River was organized sometime prior to 1998 by Donna & Jim Bennett and Carroll & Bob Gilges.[2]
