Frederick Morris, known to University of Virginia students in the mid-20th century as "Tim Murphy", was a standard fixture in the Corner district until his death in the summer of 1943 at the age of 73.

A native of Belfast, Morris had no college degree but referred to himself as a 'Professor of Bumology' and was known to many as the 'Shabby Patriarch.' [1]

He spent many years in the merchant navy and served in the Spanish-American War. "Tim" came to Charlottesville as a landscape gardener and worked for 19 years under John C. Davis.
