  • 1779 – On the morning, Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark, native of Albemarle County and elder brother of explorer William Clark, accepted British Lieutenant Governor Henry Hamilton’s unconditional surrender of Fort Sackville at Vincennes, Indiana.
