Earlysville is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, about eighteen miles north of Charlottesville. It is named for John Early, who in 1822 bought just under a thousand acres of land that are now a portion of the town.[1]
The community was the original location of Michie Tavern, prior to its 1927 relocation adjacent to Monticello.[2]
In the Comprehensive Plan adopted in 1971, Earlysville was named as one of 14 "villages" in Albemarle County. This classification was removed during the 1996 update of the plan, which removed all villages except for the Village of Rivanna. [citation needed]
