Biography
Dennis Rooker was born in Michigan in 1950 and grew up in Pulaski, Va. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1968, from UVA with a B.A. in economics in 1972, and from UVA Law School in 1976. He and his wife, Ann, have 2 daughters, 3 grandsons and a granddaughter. He has lived in Albemarle County for 35 years and currently[when?] lives in Roslyn Ridge[1]. He has been a practicing attorney in this area for 33 years and have owned and operated media, real estate and venture capital businesses[1].
He has served on numerous Albemarle County government committees for the past 15 years, and served on the Albemarle County Planning Commission from 1997 to 2001, serving as Chair in his final year.
Rooker was first elected to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors in 2001, defeating William T. Randolph. He subsequently won reelection in 2005, defeating Republican Christian J. Shoenewald, and again in 2009, running unopposed.
Committee Assignments
Rooker was a member of the Board of Directors of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, the Planning and Coordination Council, and the Fiscal Impact Advisory Committee. He previously served on the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir Stewardship Task Force, the MPO Policy Board, and the Meadowcreek Parkway Design Committee.
29 Bypass Disclosure
On June 16, 2002, Rooker filed a transactional disclosure statement with the county attorney's office explaining his potential conflict of interest involving the proposed Western Bypass of U.S. 29. Rooker and his wife owns 7.1% of Roslyn Ridge LC, which owns a portion of land adjacent to the bypass. The document contains a statement that Rooker is "able to participate" in votes related to the bypass because many other parties have an interest in the outcome of the case as well. [4]
2009 election for Board of Supervisors
Again running in the Jack Jouett Magisterial District, Rooker was the only incumbent supervisor to run unopposed in this election.
