History

On June 21, 2014, the group held a Urban Farm and Garden Tour. [1]

In 2020, the group merged with the City Schoolyard Garden, the Urban Agriculture Collective of Charlottesville, and the Food Justice Network. [citation needed]

Food Equity Initiative

The group has long been involved in efforts to promote food as a human right and that everyone should have access to fresh produce and high-quality food. In March 2021, the group created a Food Equity Initiative Policy Platform that made the case for a series of requests from Charlottesville City Council. [2] [3]

Charlottesville City Council's support dates back to their October 15, 2018 meeting when they approved $65,000 for the initiative. [4]

The group presented the results of their Food Equity Initiative in November 2021. [5]

Leadership

In the summer of 2023, the group announced that Aleen Carey would become executive director, replacing Jeanette Abi-Nader and Richard Morris who had been serving as co-executive directors. [6]

Recognition

Cultivate Charlottesville received a Community Award from the UVA Sustainability Committee in 2023. [7]
