Charlottesville Derby Dames
In non-pandemic times, The Dames' regular season runs from mid-January to mid-November each year.
The non-profit organization donates a portion of the proceeds from each bout to local charities. The Dames' mission is to promote sportsmanship and community by providing an alternative form of fitness and entertainment in the form of roller derby with the purpose of empowering women and their physical, mental, and social health.
In January 2012, the team was accepted into the Women's Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA) organization as an Apprentice League. After meeting necessary requirements, the team will eventually be accepted into WFTDA as a member organization. On April 18, 2011, the City Council proclaimed the Derby Dames as the city's official roller derby team.
