Charles Meriwether Brand (1856 - 1897) was the first city editor for the Daily Progress. He died on January 14, 1897. [1]

History
Brand was born on July 10, 1856 and was the oldest son of W. W. Brand. He spent his career in the printing press and became city editor of the Daily Progress on its foundation in 1892. He also filed reports for newspapers across Virginia.
Brand was also a member of the Odd Fellows, the Independent Order of Mechanics, and the Woodmen of the World.
He married Ella Goode of Lynchburg and the couple adopted a son. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
