Carl B. Deane

Carl B. Deane was a Charlottesville businessman who ran for Democratic nomination for City Council in 1960. He was a co-owner of the Downtown Athletic Store.

Primary election

Deane sought the Democratic nomination on a three-man slate with M.A. Cohen and S. Dexter Forbes. They made their announcement in early January 1960. [1] Cohen was 47 art the time of the announcement.

Biography

Deane was a Charlottesville native who graduated from public schools. He attended Duke University but left in 1941 to serve in the Army during World War II. He was with the engineering corps from 1941 to 1946. Upon returning home, he became a co-owner at the Downtown Athletic Store with his business partner Robert B. Holland. He married Ilma McAlexander and they had two children as of 1960. Deane was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Charlottesville Elks Club and the Falcon Club.
