Brian Wheeler will resign as communications director of the city of Charlottesville on November 19, 2021 after nearly four years in the position. [1]

Wheeler served for over a dozen years as the first executive director of Charlottesville Tomorrow beginning in July 2005. Wheeler has lived in the Charlottesville-Albemarle region since 1984 and represented the community as an elected member of the Albemarle County School Board during January 2004 to August 2010.

In late 2018 and early 2019, he served as interim Clerk of the Council following the resignation of Paige Rice. [2]

From 1998 to 2005, Wheeler served as Chief Information Officer at SNL Financial, a leading provider of data to Wall Street. Prior to that, he was employed at the W. Alton Jones Foundation, a private family foundation that focused on grantmaking supporting environmental and international security projects.

Wheeler received a B.A. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia in May 1990. He and his wife Jean Milam Wheeler have two children and live in Ivy, Virginia.
