Blue Ridge Poison Center

The Blue Ridge Poison Center (BRPC) at the University of Virginia provides general poison information and poison management advice to over 2.3 million residents in 54 counties and 48 hospitals of Central and Western Virginia. The BRPC is staffed by trained nurse specialists in poison information, six Medical Toxicologists and two Toxicology Fellows. All calls are free and confidential. [1] In 2010, the center handled 31,618 calls. [2]

On March 21, 2011, Mayor Dave Norris proclaimed Poison Prevention Week to raise awareness of the center and its mission. [3]
