Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention facility, c. 2015.

Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center (BRJDC) opened for operations in July 2002. It is a 40 bed facility designed and licensed to care for Juveniles ages 10 thru 17. BRJD is located in the County of Albemarle, adjacent to the Virginia National Guard Armory and the Albemarle – Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention (BRJD) is a Commission operated facility with the following localities as participating members:[1]

  • City of Charlottesville
  • County of Albemarle
  • County of Culpeper
  • County of Fluvanna
  • County of Greene

Virginia Local Government is authorized to construct and operate detention and other facilities and programs for juveniles by the General Assembly.(§§16.1-226 et seq., 16.1-248.1, 16.1-309.5, 16.1-315, and 16.1-322.1 et seq.)[2]
