William G. Suhling III, more commonly referred to as Billy, was the University of Virginia football captain in 1942 who withdrew from the school that same year to enter military service for World War II. [1] In 1997, the William G. Suhling, Jr., and William G. Suhling III Library Fund was established to support the acquisition or preservation of library materials, with this fund being created in honor of both Billy and his father as both men were UVA alumni and World War II veterans.
