Alvin Edwards is a former City Councilor and former member of the Charlottesville City School Board. He served as councilor/mayor from 1990 to 1992. He resigned from the school board on October 31, 2010.[1]Reverend Edwards is pastor of Mount Zion First African Baptist Church.
Edwards cast the lone vote against allowing traffic to cross the Downtown Mall at Second Street NW. He was a proponent of having Charlottesville revert to town status. [2]
In 1999, he reentered City politics by serving as the Chair of the Charlottesville Democratic Party.[3]
On August 23, 2013 he was appointed to the the Piedmont Virginia Community College Board for a term ending in 2017.[4] [5]
Biography
Edwards was born in Joliet, Illinois and attended Joliet Junior College. He received his B.A. in Biblical Studies at Illinois' Wheaton College and got a Master's degree in divinity from Virginia Union School of Theology.
In 1981, he became Pastor at Mount Zion First African Baptist Church.
