Early days

The two-storey cinderblock building with a brick facade was built around 1946 as an auto service station. C&R Auto occupied the space for many years before the property became vacant. Three apartments were constructed above the station. In 1951, a one story building was added in front of the shop to serve as a filling station. In 1963, the filling station turned into University Cleaners. That building was demolished in 1977. [1]

Renovations

The buildings were renovated by the late Gabe Silverman in the early 21st century. [citation needed]

Previous buildings

This lot was the site of the Jefferson Opera House, which was built in 1896 and burned ten years later. After that, several automobile related uses occupied the site.
