- January 2 – Charlottesville City Council selects Juandiego Wade as Mayor and Brian Pinkston as Vice Mayor. [1]
- January 8 – Shannon Library opens to the public after 4 years of renovation.[2]
- January 9 – Fred Missel is elected chair of the Albemarle County Planning Commission and Luis Carrazana is elected vice chair. Both serve in top positions related to land use at the University of Virginia. [3]
- January 10 – Regional summit is held to kick off the Move Safely Blue Ridge initiative organized by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission. [4]
- January 12 – Ground is broken for Piedmont Housing Alliance's Hickory Hope apartments at Southwood that will feature 121 dwelling units. [5]
- February 29 – The Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia vote to change the name of Alderman Library to Shannon Library.[6]
- March 13 – For visitor safety, a temporary closure of Big Meadows will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. March 13 through 10:00 a.m. March 14. Shenandoah National Park plans to conduct a prescribed burn of approximately 88 acres of the Big Meadow at mile 51 on Skyline Drive, weather permitting. Smoke may be visible in and around the Big Meadows area. Prescribed burns at Shenandoah National Park are conducted under the guidance and direction of trained and experienced personnel from the National Park Service. - April 4 – Grand opening celebration of Shannon Library after 4 years of renovation.[8]
- April 26 – UVA School of Data Science officially opens in the Emmet / Ivy Corridor [9]
- April 30 – Site plan conference for new Alumni Hall held in Neighborhood Development Services conference room in Charlottesville City Hall [10] [11]
- June 7 – The University of Virginia's Board of Visitors, will host a meeting to: Confirm and approve the names of several buildings on campus, review the design schematics for the North Grounds Parking Garage, hear a report on operations and state government relations, and receive written reports on sustainability and possible additions to the Major Capital Plan.[12] [13]
- July 1 – Agnor-Hurt Elementary School to become Agnor Elementary School [14]
- July 1 – Extended by the General Assembly in 2016, the state moratoria for city annexation, county immunity from city annexation, and the granting of new city charters was scheduled to end. The 2023 Session, HB 1676 (Hodges) and SB 1185 (Lewis) extend the moratorium on city annexations until July 1, 2032.[15] [16]
- August 3 – City Council voted 4-1 on an ordinance to use ranked-choice voting in its own June 2025 primary election. Councilor Lloyd Snook was the only vote against it. The city of Charlottesville will become the second locality in Virginia to use ranked choice voting as a vote method in a local election, after Arlington County.[17]
- August 14 – James River Water Authority breaks ground for water line and pump station to bring water to Zion Crossroads [18]

- March 12 – Lorraine Williams, Charlottesville civil rights pioneer who helped desegregate Charlottesville City Schools [19]
- May 29 – Melvin Eugene Walker, owner of local restaurant, Mel's Cafe, passes away.[20]
