City Council
On May 4, 2004 Charlottesville held elections for three seats on the City Council.

Voters could cast three votes, one for each of the three seats available, hence the percentages do not total 100%.
- City Code: Sec. 2-35. - Election of city council at November general election. (As of July 19, 2004)[2]
- (a) Pursuant to Virginia Code § 24.2-222.1 and notwithstanding the provisions of City Charter Sec. 5(d) and Virginia Code § 24.2-222, the election of members of city council shall be held on the general election date in November of odd-numbered years, beginning in November, 2007, and biennially thereafter, in accordance with the following cycles:
- (1) The election for the two (2) city council seats filled by the council election of May, 2006 shall be held in November, 2009 and every four (4) years thereafter; and,
- (2) The election for the three (3) city council seats filled by the council election of May, 2004 shall be held in November, 2007 and every four (4) years thereafter.
- (b) In accordance with the provisions of Virginia Code § 24.2-222.1(D), members of city council elected at a May general election shall have their term of office shortened by six (6) months but shall continue in office until their successors have been elected at the November general election and have been qualified to serve.
- (a) Pursuant to Virginia Code § 24.2-222.1 and notwithstanding the provisions of City Charter Sec. 5(d) and Virginia Code § 24.2-222, the election of members of city council shall be held on the general election date in November of odd-numbered years, beginning in November, 2007, and biennially thereafter, in accordance with the following cycles:
