- May 18 – Voters in Albemarle County and Charlottesville approve Revenue Sharing Agreement in referendum [1]
- September 23 – Guthrie Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places [2]
- November 16 – Council votes to hold a second referendum on switching to a ward-based system for Council representation following the passage of a first a couple of weeks prior [3]
Deaths
- June 25 – Horace Carter Miller Sr. dies in Albemarle County and is buried at the Mount Zion First African Baptist Church Cemetery. A resident of Burnley who later began working his own farm in the vicinity of Rivanna, Miller had his portrait photograph prominently included within the Holsinger Studio Collection.
- July 28 – Prominent Geneticist, W. Ralph Singleton, passes away at the age of 82.[4]
