- January 11 – UVA celebrated its first-ever appearance in the Associated Press Top 20 rankings by upsetting the No. 2-ranked University of South Carolina, 50-49.[1]
- March 2 – Christ Episcopal Church listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register.
- April 13 – In an effort to sway public opinion, the city holds Mall Day to provide a glimpse of life with a pedestrian mall.[2]
- July 2 – Christ Episcopal Church added to National Register of Historic Places. [3]
- September 16 – Albemarle Board of Supervisors voted 4-2 to adopt the county's first Comprehensive Plan [4]
- November 16 – Castle Hill in Albemarle County listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register [5]
