- February 13 - Charlottesville was in the midth of a raging blizzard with the snow piled in drifts. Railroad trains were blocked for two and three days. The snow began falling rapidly about 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon. It continued without abatement all night and into Sunday. Sunday night it continued, and Monday morning it was driving before a high northern wind. About 12:30 o'clock the snow ceased, with average depth on the earth of twenty inches, and in drifts of anywhere from five to eight feet in depth.
- October 7 – A bust of Edgar Allen Poe is unveiled at the new University of Virginia library on the 50th anniversary of his death. [1]
- November 30 – The last Thanksgiving of the century was held on the final day of the month. [2]
- December 1 –; The Daily Progress confirms that the Virginia Ice Company was purchased by the Charlottesville City & Suburban Railway Company [3]
