• August 18 - Explorer Meriwether Lewis, who joined William Clark to blaze a trail across the continent to the Pacific Ocean, was born near Charlottesville on his father's farm, Locust Hill, located approximately 10 miles west of Monticello.

Deaths

• July 10 – Joseph Kinkead dies in Albemarle County. An early inhabitant of the county, Kinkead had pledged money in support of Rev. Samuel Black, who ministered for the first Presbyterian church in the county.
